Burn coal without smoke!
Why not burn charcoal? It sounds paradoxical but with the creativity of young people, many things from impossible to be possible.
Smokeless coal, a startup project that applies technology in production of Ms. Le Thi Hien (33 years old, from Quang Tri), has just won the first prize of the contest “Agricultural entrepreneurship project” by the Center for Business Research and Business support – BSA (HCMC) organized for young people is a testament to that creativity.
What to do when coal burned without smoke? Ms Hien revealed: “It is a very long research process with many failed experiments. But something like this, traditionally producing traditional coal in the pressing process, creating charcoal pellets, the producers use glue to bind, but I use a starch from cassava starch combined with the specific chemical formula to manufacturing”.
Graduated from Saigon Technology University in 2008, with a degree in food engineering, after a few years working with quite convenient professional jobs but with a passion for business, at the end of 2014, Ms. Hien turned to self-start with a project of producing “Smokeless coal”, and then established R2D Food Science and Technology Joint Stock Company in early 2015.
Sharing on the idea of starting a business, Hien said: “Once I studied with a partner in Eastern Europe to overcome the situation of coal used to smoke shisa without smoke, I learned about the material area and learned the problem. The smoke comes from materials that have not been properly treated.
So I started to research more deeply. And suddenly thought of applying this research to Vietnam to create smokeless coal from agricultural by-products.
Because every day, witnessing people burning or throwing coconut shells after using, I feel so wasteful that these things can create useful energy products in life. ”
When Ms. Hien brought this idea of starting a business to share with her family to start a business, many people said she was crazy or not to quit her current job to work on an impossible project. But ignoring the words of deterrence, Hien decided to implement the project.
“At that time, everything I lacked, only faith and perseverance in pursuing my passion was redundant. Because I have seen the future this is a good product, with a large market both at home and abroad. Moreover, I research to make a renewable energy product from waste ”, Ms. Hien shared.
According to Ms. Hien, the highlight of the product is charcoal that is smokeless, odorless, non-chemical, long-lasting, does not cause explosions, does not shoot sparks when burning. Moreover, consumers benefit from a price of 15-20% compared to charcoal. Not only providing products for the domestic market, this product has now received many contracts in demanding markets such as Korea, Japan, USA …
